Bodhi Day commemorates the day that Siddhartha Guatauma, experienced enlightenment, or “Bodhi” and became the Buddha (or the enlightened one). This day is not celebrated as much as the Buddha’s birthday (Wesak Day), but many Buddhists will meditate and in Buddhist homes, you will sometimes see a Sacred Fig tree decorated with multi-colored lights and strung with beads to symbolise the way all things are united. They are hung with three shiny ornaments to represent the Three Jewels – The Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha.
